For World Kindness Week 2012, Lisa and I could not think of a better way to spend the day than by saying thank you to all those wonderful people in our community who help others. We also thought we’d surprise Sydneysiders with random acts of kindness and received lots of big hugs and feel good moments back. Our message out to the world is to stay kind – we hope you are inspired! Hope you love this goodness caught on tape.

A Day of Giving In Sydney

What better way to celebrate World Kindess Week 2012 than to run amok in the streets of Sydney and surprising young and old with some wonderful acts of kindness. We met so many wonderful people who shared their perspective on life and why it is so important to trust and help each other through our tough times.

Like Gordon, a homeless guy who depended on ‘the kindness of strangers’ to get by every day or our beautiful private school girl volunteers at the Wayside Chapel who feel they are so lucky to have a priveleged life and want to help those less fortunate in their local area. Group hugs, handing out scratchies to the elderly, spending time with our marginalised and homeless, handing around hearts on a stick and chocolate to passers by….thats some of the good stuff we loved giving.

Giving & Receiving

A dear friend of mine likes to remind me that receiving is just as important as giving. That if you keep on giving and others keep on taking then one day you will have little to give, your energy will drain and resentment will remain, which well, goes against the original intention.

He has created this great video below which explains the concept of receiving really well. I like to watch this regularly as a gentle reminder that we have to accept as well as give kindness, and often! Watch it and let me know what your thoughts are.

Perfect Little Creations

When I first saw the individually made cards at Miroma Light Industries, they instantly warmed my heart. I picked them up one by one and could see and feel just how much care and love had gone into each and every one of them.

These sweet little cards had been made by the employees at Miroma, part of Inala, and a Disability Enterprise program over at Bellevue Hill, NSW that employs people with disabilities. They sold like crazy over at their annual fate last year and I was thrilled to not be able to keep up with demand. I knew I was passing on more than just a product to others. These cards were supporting Inala and Miroma and creating job opportunties and a creative outlet for some beautiful friends I had made who smothered my with hugs all day.

All special in their own way I could feel the beautiful energy of the cards creators who take enormous pride in their work and are so happy to share their creativity with others. I just had to put these cards in my store I thought and pass on those perfect little creations.

Helping Others – Improve Our World

This video is by far my favourite – it really demonstrates what we all know and what I truly believe. If only we could trust and depend on other people in daily life to do the right thing, to care and be generous in spirit and in their actions. Could you imagine how beautiful our world could be? Simple kindness, fairness, respect, compassion and gratitude for the life and world we share = a perfect place to be.

A poem with friends

I recently asked my lovely Facebook friends to help me write a poem on kindness and here is how it ended up. A big thank you to Lisa from Ripple Kindness Cards & also Kathie from Women with Spirit.

“If kindness made our world go round, we sure would all sleep safe and sound.
If love could always fill our hearts, each day would have a godly start. (Betty)

If we all make an effort to be kind to others, to neighbours, strangers, sisters and brothers.

One of the easiest ways to exchange some kindness is to hold out your arms and give someone who really needs it a massive, warm hug. It says to the recipient “everything is going to be Ok” and transfers healing energy from one person to another. Never underestimate the power of a hug. They are free, always there and well…just plain beautiful.

We just love to support Australians in many ways. If we can see a way of contributing towards making a difference in our community we will. Not only do we share 5% of our sales with four wonderful charities, over 90% of our products are made by talented local mums and small businesses or supplied by our charities to further fund their necessary work. The rest are sourced from struggling communities overseas.

We want our customers to have a positive shopping experience online and to inspire others in the community to find a way to pass it forward! Can you imagine if we all consciously started each day with a compassionate attitude, extending a helping hand or listening ear. We’d all be sharing a better place.
